Location

Located in the heart of Iceland’s Golden Circle, Torfhús Retreat is blend of authentic Icelandic style, inspired by traditional Icelandic viking farms, and relaxed eco-luxury.

Positioned on the banks of the Ölfusá River, Selfoss serves as a gateway to Iceland’s Golden Circle including Gullfoss waterfall, the geothermal area at Hveragerði, and Þingvellir National Park.

This rugged landscape is very much alive, threaded with story—you might even see the huldufólk, like Marina did when she visited Torfhús in 2024.

What makes Return to the Wild different?

Return to the Wild goes beyond a typical writing retreat. It offers a full immersion in the land and local wisdom, creating an inclusive, mindful, and inspiring space for writers to elevate their craft and reconnect to their creative spirit through a nature-centered perspective, guided by published authors and industry experts.

What’s Included?

faculty

  • Marina Green

    Literary Agent, Editor, Founder

By day, Marina is literary agent, previously a Big 5 acquiring editor. Avid supporter of the Oxford Comma and the em dash, Marina is also a freelance editor by night, founder of Marina Edits and Return to the Wild.

In her free time, you can find Marina with her nose in a book or clicking away at her laptop, chasing new stories and wrangling them into wild submission. When she isn’t immersing herself in story, you can find her with a cup of tea in hand, trying a new yoga asana—never at the same time—or practicing Armenian, the language of her ancestors.

  • H.M. Long

Hannah (H. M.) Long is a Canadian fantasy author. She inhabits a ramshackle cabin in Ontario with her family, but she can often be spotted snooping about museums or wandering the Alps.

Hannah writes for Titan Books and is the author of the Four Pillars Quartet (Hall of Smoke), the Winter Sea Trilogy (Dark Water Daughter), the Entwined Duology (2026), Ashmarked (2027), and more.

For the latest updates, follow Hannah on TikTok (@hmlongbooks), Instagram (@hmlongbooks), and Twitter (@hannah_m_long).

(HUGE thanks to the incredible Hannah for jumping in as faculty to help our Iceland writers when our original plans went awry!)

  • Robyn J Pritzker

Robyn J Pritzker is a novelist and doctor of literature.

Her debut novel, The Moonsingers, will be out with Poisoned Pen Press in July 2026, and her short fiction and research can be found online and in print.

Robyn’s PhD investigated boundary transgressions in fairy tales and the Gothic. When not writing, she is usually meandering Edinburgh on foot.

You can also find her over at Trust the Oak on Substack, going on and on about genre and books at large.

Robyn is represented by Victoria Marini at High Line Literary Collective.

(HUGE thanks to the most amazing Robyn for jumping in as faculty to help our Iceland writers when our original plans went awry!)

Ali Caron

Writer & Founder of Mind For Story

Ali loves stories of all kinds, especially those where good triumphs over evil, love wins the day, and people realize they had the power within them all along. She loves cozy blankets, cloudy days, and asking "What if?" Born and raised in the mountains of New York's Hudson Valley, Ali can often be found with a book in her hand and a story in her heart. She works as a corporate archivist and records manager by day and fills her free time with reading, writing, exploring, and making new friends.

Transportation & Sightseeing

Torfhús, our home base, is located in the heart of the Golden Circle. There are so many sights for us to see! Marina has arranged some sightseeing for us on the way to Torfhús the first day. Led by the legendary Hávar, who is a playwright and a journalist in Iceland, we will depart from Reykjavík and make our way through the many sights. Hávar has a wealth of knowledge of the land with many stories to tell along our journey. Start your journey off through the eyes of a local and arrive to our destination in time to drop off your bags and enjoy a delicious Icelandic supper. At the end of our stay, Hávar will pick us up and drop us off safely in Reykjavík again. To keep costs low, transportation is not included in the base retreat price. An opportunity to book your spot on Hávar’s coach with Marina and your faculty will be available after enrolment.

Fee: $550 USD

This fee includes an additional afternoon of sightseeing with Hávar!
Exact sights will be revealed after enrolment!

I think part of what keeps pulling me back to Iceland is how much it teaches you to let go. You just can’t control this place, you can only respond to it.
